Prices: It is often the case that the paintwork on a restoration is left until last, by which time you have discovered that you are well over budget already! So now the temptation is to cut costs with a compromise of some sort. So, unless you have compromised on the rest of the work, poor paintwork will let the rest of the bike down.

So what does it actually cost to paint a bike to show winning standards? Because, for example, classic bike fuel tanks, panels etc come in various states of disrepair, from scrap to having a nice patina of age, it’s impossible to have a set menu of prices. So, for an accurate estimate of cost for a particular job we have to inspect it and then, having done so, we can provide you with a firm price. As a guide though, if you click on our gallery and see if there is a “before” shot that represents the condition of your tank or panels, we can probably give you a pretty accurate estimate over the phone. Painting motorcycle bodywork is a labour intensive process and one should always be wary about simply accepting the lowest quote. If the quoted price is low then it’s almost inevitable that the preparation will not be thorough and the job will be sub standard. In our experience the difference in cost between a mediocre job and a show winning on can be surprisingly small and significant number of our clients comes to us after they have had unsatisfactory work done by a cheaper source. The old adage ‘you buy cheap, you buy twice’ is particularly relevant with paintwork and we’ve seen many a lengthy restoration compromised by a cheap paint job. Having to have the job done again can quickly make a budget paint job turn into a very expensive one.
