Honda Case Study
Moving along, so to speak, here is a much later panel, from a Honda RC30 in fact . These bikes were virtually hand built by HRC and the body panels were made from extremely high quality fibreglass which is reflected in the very high cost of replacements. The owner particularly wanted to retain the original panels on the machine and so the damaged panel was carefully repaired.
As you can see, the damage has affected all three colours and the decal as well which meant that the whole side of the bellypan had to be repainted.
Here the repair has been done to the fibreglass, primered and the white pearl painted . This is a two stage colour that requires a solid white of the correct shade applying first and then the appropriate translucent pearl white. This then receives a couple of coats of intercoat clear to enable us to mask over it without damaging the pearl coat.
Now the red and pinstripe have been painted on , the decal has been applied and laquered over .One RC30 bellypan saved from the bin!
Compare this picture with the one before work started and you will see how a properly executed repair can restore a damaged panel to as good as new.
